Things don’t appear to be going too well for Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs. As many NBA fans should be aware, Wemby was the hyped-up draft prospect from the 2023 Draft class and was selected with the first pick in the first round by the San Antonio Spurs.
In order to qualify as a lottery team for the #1 draft pick, the Spurs had to finish last season with one of the worst records in the NBA. At the time, many assumed that sacrificing a season was the price that needed to be paid in order to begin the process of rebuilding around a new young generational talent.
We all know that Wemby was expected to be that talent given his incredible height and basketball abilities. However, the Spurs’ slow start to the season is raising some serious cause for concern among fans. That said, let us take a closer look and find out more.
Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs are now on a 15-game losing streak
As we complete the first quarter of the NBA season, it already appears as if the Spurs are out of playoff contention and in the same position that they were in last year. The team currently holds a record of 3 wins and 17 losses and is on a troubling 15-game losing streak.

Some fans will remember that the Spurs’ last win came several weeks ago in a match against Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns. The team has remained winless since then and still appears to be one of the worst teams in the league despite acquiring Wembanyama.
After Spurs fans noticed that their team is now on a 15-game losing streak, some opined that the team should run the offense more through Wemby as opposed to the rest of the players on the roster, “They run zero offense for Wemby it’s so crazy to watch.”

While Victor’s fans may be making a valid point, others pointed out that he is not the most efficient shooter and is only making 43.2% of his field goal shots and just 26.5% from the three-point line. Therefore, one might just be able to argue that the team would be in a similar situation if Wembanyama is asked to carry a larger scoring load.
I know it is crazy. And also Wemby has no post moves or a jump hook shot. I watch the whole game, all of his games on TV. I don’t think the great Tim Duncan, or David Robinson are working with him on his post game.

Since this is just his rookie season, fans will not be too disappointed if Wemby is unable to lead the Spurs to the playoffs. However, if this trend keeps up for the next few years, there is no denying that he will soon be deemed a “bust” by the same NBA experts that hyped him up all along.
