Some NBA fans might be aware of the personal life and relationships of Shaquille O’Neal. The 4x NBA champion was once married to a woman named Shaunie Henderson and even has 6 children. The couple got divorced more than a decade ago. However, O’Neal has revealed that it is something that he still regrets to this day.
As we know, divorce is an increasingly growing problem in society and has the potential to tear a family up. Especially under bad circumstances. Be that as it may, Shaq has shared that he was able to reconcile with his children despite splitting up with their mother. Since this is news to us, let us take a look at what he has to say on the issue.
Shaquille O’Neal is at peace with all of his children despite his divorce from Shaunie Henderson
There is no denying that there was a major issue in his marriage with Shaunie. It has been reported that he engaged in multiple extramarital affairs, much to the anger of his wife. Since then, Shaq has shown regret for his actions and explained that he would be a changed man if he happened to get married again. In fact, his guilt over the situation even turns into self-depreciation at times.
“I was a d*ckhead, You don’t know how good you got something till it’s gone….”And guess what? It’s your(my) fault, I was living the good life.”
It takes a true man to stand up and admit that he is wrong. Especially when he is as prominent and well-known a personality as the former NBA legend. Engaging in infidelity is quite frowned upon when it is a family man involved. Although he never reconciled with his ex-wife over his shortcomings, O’Neal revealed that he was able to heal his relationship with his children.
“I’ve only got peace because they don’t hate me,” he says. “If they hated me, I probably would never have peace, but because we have a relationship and we’re cool, I have peace.”
Some children would find it difficult to forgive their father for being a bad husband and cheating on their mother. However, Shaq’s children clearly found a way, which would make sense considering that O’Neal never indicated any shortcomings as a father. He has supported their passions and interests and provided for their upbringing. That is something he never had for stretches of his childhood.
