Victor Wembanyama has already started leaving his opponents in a state of shock. He was the most hyped prospect amongst any player since the 2003 NBA Draft. Now, things are falling into place and the Frenchman is proving himself to be exactly what everybody believed he would be. At this pace, it would be only a matter of time before Wemby becomes one of the greatest highlights of the game.
There were a few issues that experts believed would hinder his ability to produce game-changing numbers. For example, his height as he stands at 7 feet 4 inches tall. Not every player of this stature has the ability to move quickly and do things besides attacking or defending the rim. On the other hand, Victor has been nothing short of a standout. He’s proven that he can create space and shoot like a guard, dribble, facilitate, and defend consistently.

This was one highlight of the San Antonio Spurs’ recent game against the Miami Heat. Victor Wembanyama left Thomas Bryant speechless including some of his fans. One fan said, “The moment humanity discovered aliens exist.” Another fan said, “The look he gave is the look of “How do you stop that?'” Bryant was in utter shock after Wemby elevated over him and dunked the ball from behind his head. Thus creating the sports world’s newest meme in the mix.
Victor Wembanyama stood out against the Heat to lead the Spurs to a victory
Victor Wembanyama has been very impressive over the last few games of the preseason. Fans got a glimpse of him during the 2023 Summer League, but he wasn’t playing to his truest potential. However, Wemby has turned things around for the preseason. During his first appearance against the Oklahoma City Thunder, he went head-to-head against Chet Holmgren. And the two put up a great fight against each other.
He’s been averaging 21.5 points along with 4.5 rebounds, and 4 assists per game in two games of the preseason. During his first game, he put up 20 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists in 23 minutes. Additionally, he recorded 3 blocks as well. Against the Heat, he recorded 23 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals, and one block. There is definitely more to Wembanyama than what we’ve seen so far.
“He’s obviously a gifted player who was very humbly trying to find his place. I called one play for him all night and I think he got over 20. He just did that because he’s a good basketball player and he understands how to play, so we have to make sure that we blend that with everything else that we have,” said coach Gregg Popovich. The Spurs will take on the Houston Rockets on October 16, 2023, at the AT&T Center.
