The Golden State Warriors were hit with a major bump in the road when Stephen Curry suffered a serious injury a while ago. For the fans who don’t know, Steph bumped knees with Dallas Mavericks’ McKinley Wright IV during a game. That immediately sent him to the locker room that night. Steph was still the best player for the Warriors that day, with 21 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 assists in 26 minutes. However, that was where the problems started for the 4x NBA champ.
The Warriors beat the Mavs even without Curry and Luka Doncic’s absence played a part as well. Since then, the defending champs are on a record of 1-1 after winning against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Klay Thompson has stepped up in Curry’s absence and the Warriors will need every resource they need against the Los Angeles Lakers soon as well.
When will Stephen Curry return from injury?
The Warriors provided an update on what type of injury Curry suffered a week ago. The statement mentioned that Curry “suffered partial tears to his superior tibiofibular ligaments and interosseous membrane as well as a contusion to his left lower leg on February 4 vs. Dallas, will be re-evaluated after the All-Star break.”
This surely rules The Chef out for the All-Star game on February 19 as well. Warriors fans have eager to find out when their superstar will return, mainly because of how their performances have been this season.
Recently, GSW head coach Steve Kerr let the world in on how Curry was progressing behind the scenes. As per the San Francisco Chronicle, Kerr said, “He’s getting his conditioning in as much as he can, but also trying to stay off his feet. So biking seems to be the choice right now. He’s progressing fine, but he’s a ways off.”
The news will disappoint fans when they realize Steph will not return to the court any time soon. The Warriors are currently 7th seed in the West and are struggling to gain momentum right now.
With the Baby-Faced Assassin on the sidelines, they needed to strengthen their squad in the trade market as well. However, Bob Myers and Co. were only able to acquire former Warrior Gary Payton II from the Portland Trail Blazers. His future continues to hang in the balance as rumors mention that the Blazers did not inform the Warriors board of his injury before the trade. Only time will tell us how The Dubs will perform this season and until Steph returns from injury.
