The 2022 NBA Regular season has come to an end. That means that the regular season awards for all categories are the next thing that’s on everyone’s mind. They are usually awarded either in the middle of the NBA playoffs or on some occasions, after the playoffs. The race for all awards seems too hard to predict making these results even more anticipated. One of those races is for the ROTY and Shaq has made his pick for the winner.
On a recent NBA on TNT airing, Shaq and Charles Barkley revealed who they would pick for ROTY.
Who is Shaq and Charles’ ROTY for 2022?
Shaq is a former Rookie of the Year from the 1992-93 NBA season. Charles Barkley finished in the All-Rookie first team and only lost the ROTY award to MJ and Hakeem. They are one of the few ‘been there done that type of analysts.
“They, in my opinion, got the best rookie, his name is Scottie Barnes.”

Charles made this bold statement and Shaq seconded it. Scottie Barnes of the Toronto Raptors is Shaq and Charles’ ROTY.

Currently, Scottie Barnes is averaging 15 points, 7 rebounds and 1 steal in the 75 games he’s played this season. Also, the Toronto Raptors hold the 5th seed in the East. However, Shaq and Charles aren’t the only ones rooting for him to win the ROTY. Kevin Durant also believes in Scottie Barnes’ performances.

Barnes was drafted 4th overall but is currently 3rd in the rookie of the year ladder. At the moment, the NBA has ranked Evan Mobley and Cade Cunningham above him. Even though Cade and Mobley are on teams that are playing worse than the Raptors, their individual statistics are what’s keeping them over Scottie.
However, when the voting unfolds we could see a lot of the voters favor team success while casting their votes. And also being backed by some of the greatest players in NBA history is a good thing to consider. Will Scottie Barnes help the Raptors get past the 76ers in the first round?
