Rich Paul, one of the NBA’s leading agents, recently revealed the advice he gave to LeBron James when he decided to join the Lakers in 2018. In a recent interview with Shannon Sharpe on the Club Shay Shay podcast, Paul shared insights on the strategy that ultimately led LeBron to Los Angeles.
In the interview, Paul explained the championship-centric vision that motivated James’ move to Los Angeles. “When we go to LA,” Paul said, “It’s all about championships. But all you need is one.” Paul emphasized that the intention was never about winning numerous titles but about creating a unique legacy by winning in three different cities.

LeBron achieved that vision, after winning titles with the Miami Heat in 2012 and 2013, and with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016, James added a ring with the Lakers in 2020. This strategic achievement sets LeBron apart in the NBA’s history and also solidifies his position in the never-ending “GOAT” debate.
LeBron James boasts a feat even Michael Jordan hasn’t been able to touch
Even though many basketball legends have won the Larry O’Brien Trophy multiple times, James’ achievement is unique. He has managed to secure NBA championships with three teams. In comparison, players like Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant, and Bill Russell won all their titles with one team.
While history experts might point out that John Salley and Robert Horry also won championships across different teams. But Salley or Horry were not primarily responsible for leading their teams, whereas LeBron was undeniably the key player behind each of his team’s successes.
Also, LeBron achieved these titles under the guidance of coaches who were not considered legends. Erik Spoelstra, Tyronn Lue, and Frank Vogel might be good, but they’re not on the same level as Phil Jackson or Pat Riley.
LeBron’s wins also show his adaptability and resilience. Each city had unique challenges, both on and off the court. LeBron is in his 21st season still showing his dominance on the court, averaging 23 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 7.3 assists in the first three games played.
As the new season progresses, NBA fans are eagerly anticipating if James can add another championship to his successful career. Only time will tell, but clearly, LeBron James has already built an unmatched legacy in the history of basketball.
