Sue Bird was one of the most successful WNBA stars. She entered the league in 2002 and quickly rose to fame for her uniqueness as a player. The former WNBA Champion spent her entire career playing for the Seattle Storm after being selected No.1 overall in her draft class. Bird is now a household name at the Climate Pledge Arena, in Seattle, Washington.
The 4x WNBA Champion announced her retirement at the end of the 2022 season. He spent 20 years in the league averaging a career of 11.7 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 5.6 assists.
Moreover, she was an excellent mentor to her successors in the league. Her retirement ceremony was recently held at the Climate Pledge Arena. She was joined by her former teammates, coaches, and her partner, Megan Rapinoe.
Sue Bird had her jersey retired by the Seattle Storm as the entire crowd cheered her on. Bird is a legend in the WNBA. Not only was she a part of the WNBA, but she also contributed his talents to the UMMC Ekaterinburg, Spartak Moscow Region, and Dynamo Moscow in Russia.
Bird even won five Olympic gold medals representing Team USA. She won multiple tournament championships overseas and was named among the 10th, 15th, 20th, and 25th WNBA Anniversary Teams.
Was Megan Rapinoe’s comments biased?
During her jersey retirement ceremony, Rapinoe was allowed to share a few words about Sue Bird. The WNBA star has been in a relationship with Rapinoe since the 2016 Rio Olympics. Rapinoe had an interesting take in retrospect on Bird’s career, she said, “Congratulations on like, arguably the best career that anyone has ever had in the history of any sport ever.”
Her comments took the internet by storm as they may have been a little biased towards Bird. Some fans were not having it. One said, “Oh come on be serious.” Someone went as far as comparing Bird to NBA legend Charles Barkley, “Chuck has 0 hardware, and his career bodies hers what.” Here are a few other comments.

Fans were particularly offended by Rapinoe’s comments as they completely avoid the existence of players like LeBron James, Michael Jordan, Lewis Hamilton, Novak Djokovic, and many others. Names like the WNBA’s very own Diana Taurasi can be included as well. To say she might have been one of the WNBA’s greatest would’ve been apt.
