It has been a while since the world heard about Tristan Thompson, especially since his mother’s passing. The athlete has always been the highlight of drama-alert news in the sports world. Most notably for his relationship with Khloe Kardashian and scandals with other women. However, reporters of Page Six recently discovered that Thompson had been working towards becoming his younger brother’s legal guardian.
During his prolonged absence from the headlines, the NBA free-agent filed a request to be Amari Thompson’s guardian. Following Andrea Thompson’s death, the 17-year-old was left with Tristan by his side. The 32-year-old athlete claimed to be Amari’s only close family living member. Tristan stated that their father, Trevor Thompson, hasn’t been part of their lives for nearly ten years.

Unfortunately, Amari has several medical conditions along with epilepsy. And this requires someone to be constantly available beside him. Tristan Thompson was given a temporary guardianship which will allow him to take care of Amari’s living situation, finances, and a lot more. Amari had moved in with Tristan following their mother’s death. Tristan wanted guardianship to help Amari make good investments with Andrea’s inheritance.
What happened to Andrea Thompson?
Tristan Thompson had been living his own life in the United States, while his mother, Andrea Thompson settled in Toronto, Canada. Unfortunately, in January 2023, TMZ reported that Andrea unexpectedly passed away at home after suffering from a heart attack. Amari lived with her until then.
Tristan shared a good relationship with his mother and she was a major support system as well. Before Tristan was drafted in 2011, things were a little tough for the family as she was a school bus driver, and Trevor was a truck driver.
Andrea was also close to Khloe as well, as Tristan was the father of her children. A source told E! News, “She was incredibly close to his mother, and like Khloe and the Kardashian family always do, they will come together and support their loved ones in their most difficult time of need. Tristan is the father of Khloe’s kids and she and her entire family will always be there for him.”
Despite having a tragic relationship, Khloe always supports Tristan Thompson through his struggles. Even after his house’s roof caved in, Khloe allowed Tristian and Amari to stay with her for a while. Khloe also mentioned that having let the Thompsons move in, it brought them a bit closer as a family.
