NBA superstar and 3x NBA champion, Dwyane Wade, is the father to a transgender daughter, Zaya Wade. However, with the new policy being put in place by the Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, Wade has moved out of Florida. The policies put in place by the governor are deemed to be controversial. Some families like the Wade’s are right to feel they are restrictive laws to the LGBTQ residents of the state.
The 3x Champion sat down for an interview on ‘Headliner‘, reported by Rachel Nichols. He talked about his decision to move out of a state where he delivered 3 NBA titles during his illustrious career. Wade certainly does not feel welcome by the law the policymakers have passed. Along with his decisions, he talked about how it is affecting other families like his, making them opt to move out.

According to TMZ, “A lot of people don’t know that. I have to make decisions for my family, not just personal, individual decisions,” Wade said. “You know, obviously, the taxes is great. Having Wade County is great. But my family would not be accepted or feel comfortable there. And, so that’s one of the reasons why I don’t live there,” Dwyane continued as he spoke about it in the interview.
What is the policy which has affected Dwyane Wade’s family among other families?
The Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis is looking to expand the controversial ‘Don’t Say Gay’ policy. Officially called the “Parental Rights in Education,” it bans lessons regarding ‘sexual orientation’ or ‘gender identity’, from Kindergarten to grade 3 in schools. Any instructions that are not age appropriate or developmentally oriented are not yet replaced in several states.
