Late September 2022 shocked the world of Boston Celtics fans as their head coach, Ime Udoka, was suddenly suspended for the entire 2022-23 NBA season following an investigation into his personal conduct.
According to sources, Udoka allegedly had an affair with a female subordinate, later identified by The Daily Mail as Kathleen Nimmo Lynch, the Celtics’ team service manager. However, the relationship ended before the investigation, and the consequence was big enough to cause Udoka’s firing in February.
The alleged affair affected Udoka’s personal life and his relationship with actress Nia Long. Lynch is reported to have close family ties with Celtics legend Danny Ainge, who had previously held the position of Chief of Basketball Operations.
Ainge is suspected of knowing about the affair and staying silent. The Daily Mail report also confirms that Kathleen Lynch is married to Taylor Lynch, a financial consultant, and the couple have three children. She grew up in an active Mormon family and attended Brigham Young University.
Where is Ime Udoka now?
Interestingly, Ime Udoka has been introduced as the Houston Rockets’ new coach, post his suspension in the last season following the news of his inappropriate relationship with Lynch. The NBA has expressed comfort with Udoka’s appointment, also Rockets’ owner Tilman Fertitta defended Udoka against criticism. Fertitta highlighted society’s forgiving nature, stating his belief in giving Udoka a second chance.
“They’re not a good Christian person if somebody thinks that,” Fertitta said. “We’re a forgiving society and everybody makes mistakes. And some things maybe we shouldn’t forgive people for but, but I think what happened in his personal situation is definitely something we forgive for.”
Despite not giving the specifics of the situation in Boston, Udoka expressed regret for his actions and assured the public of his commitment to personal development and responsibility over the past year. As he takes over the Houston Rockets, Udoka aims to lead a team rich in young talent towards a potential winning record and playoff appearance in the coming season.

“Having that time off and really a full understanding of how many people you impact by a poor decision, that’s where you start with the ownership and accountability,” Udoka said. “I preach that for the players and so I have to take responsibility for my part.
Udoka has a 51-31 record from his one season in Boston and will look forward to advancing his coaching career with the Rockets, contributing his experience and leadership to support the growth of the players. The new season, promises a hopeful future for Udoka and the Houston Rockets, despite the shadows of past allegations and controversies.
