Most of us are probably aware of the issue surrounding Josh Giddey that has gone viral on social media. For context, the 21-year-old NBA point guard was recently accused of dating a minor. This is not accepted by the vast majority of people living in this world, and certainly not by sports or basketball fans. Giddey has been receiving never-ending backlash from fans across all social media platforms.
Despite being put under severe pressure by the public, the Oklahoma City Thunder player has his priorities set on basketball. Within 48 hours of the allegations coming out, Giddey was spotted practicing with the Thunder before their game against the Chicago Bulls. This was when he refused to comment on the allegations while being questioned by the media. Josh was recently spotted at the OKC training facility with Chip Engelland, assistant coach of the team.

The NBA is currently investigating the issue and deemed it a serious matter. Josh Giddey entertaining a relationship with an alleged minor isn’t something the law permits either. However, there are a few claims that Giddey might not have known about her age. A fan allegedly spotted Giddey and the alleged girl, Liv Cook at a local pub. So either he was lied to, or he voluntarily participated in this illegal relationship.
Josh Giddey is at risk of losing a $40 million sponsorship deal with Weet-Bix
Ever since the allegations surfaced on the internet, Josh Giddey has had the entire world turn against him. It’s been a couple of days since the story developed, and Josh is at risk of losing sponsors as well. The NBA and with brands that associate with the league have strict guidelines to be followed by athletes. This usually includes the importance of maintaining an image while setting an example for their audience as well.
Weet-Bix, a whole-grain wheat breakfast cereal, and the OKC guard have been in ties for two years now. They signed a $40 million sponsorship deal with him. The cereal brand was originally developed in the 1920s and has become a staple in households in Australia and New Zealand. Ever since the allegations surfaced, Giddey has been silent on social media. But interestingly, Weet-Bix removed Giddey from its social media accounts.

There hasn’t been an official statement issued by the company itself, but this is a sign that they’ve taken a step in disassociating themselves from him. The company isn’t the only thing that might have disassociated itself from Giddey, as his teammate, Chet Holmgren might have as well. Holmgren and Giddey are extremely close to each other. However, the Rookie removed a post on X involving Giddey shortly after the allegations surfaced.
