Jamirah Shutes has finally been given conditional bail after punching and potentially injuring Elissa Brett. As some NBA fans might be aware, Jamirah caused quite a lot of commotion after striking at her opponent in the post-game handshaking ceremony between the University of Memphis and Bowling Green State.
Since this incident occurred after the game had ended, there was no protecting or justifying Shutes’ actions under the given circumstances. It was soon revealed that she was to be charged with assault and could even face trial for her actions.
In any case, she has been released on conditional bail after appearing at her court arraignment. Let us take a look at what these conditions are.
What are the conditions for Jamirah Shutes’ release after punching Elissa Brett?
There isn’t any revealed justification for why Jamirah decided to punch Elissa after the game had ended. Several fans claimed that it must have had to do with their interactions between the game. Since Brett’s team ended up winning the game, perhaps Shutes felt a growing sense of frustration and a lack of sportsmanship.
After Jamirah got into the altercation, she was soon charged with assault. Despite the plethora of eyewitnesses present and the video evidence proving that she hit Brett, Shutes decided to enter a plea of not guilty. Perhaps this makes sense considering that her entire future would be all but over if she were to do prison time and be convicted of assault over this incident.
Jamirah was finally brought before the Bowling Green Municipality court and given recognizance bail. However, this was conditional upon her fulfilling certain criteria. She is not to have any form of contact with Elissa Brett. Additionally, Shutes isn’t allowed to cause any harm to or threaten others.
In all fairness, these are very simple conditions for her to follow and we doubt that she will struggle in adhering to them. Some have opined that the first condition was introduced to prevent her from intimidating Elissa into taking back the complaint filed against her.
That clearly isn’t going to happen at this point in time. We hope that this trial progresses smoothly and that she is punished if found guilty by the court.
