SUMMARY
- Isiah Thomas believes Draymond Green is the true point guard of the Warriors.
- He claims that Steph Curry is worthy of being called the greatest shooter ever, but probably the best point guard.
Steph Curry is the glue that holds the Golden State Warriors together and there is no denying it. The veteran point guard has faced adversity too many times before and has proven himself every time. At 35, Curry seems to be at the top of his game and has displayed great signs of longevity. The Warriors have also achieved a lot in his tenure which includes four NBA titles. This wouldn’t have been possible without Curry’s presence.
The 10x NBA All-Star is undoubtedly the greatest shooter ever. He is also considered as the greatest point guard in NBA history. But NBA Hall of Fame, Isiah Thomas claims otherwise. During an interview with Draymond Green, he said, “When you define the position of point guard, this is in the era where they say, ‘We are position less.’”
Isiah Thomas does not count Steph as the PG of the Warriors in discussions about the greatest point guard of all time
“As a point guard, I led my team in scoring and assists to back-to-back championships.” 👀

Thomas added, “I won a different way. As a point guard, I led my team and I may be the only one who’s done this. Where I’ve led my team in scoring and assists to back-to-back championships. When he [Curry] talks about the people that he’s emulated, he talks about Reggie Miller [and] Ray Allen. But when you talk about the point guard position, the way I was thought and the way I think of it, for the Golden State Warriors you’re [Green] the point guard.” Thomas used the term position less basketball to regard Steph Curry as a point guard.
Fans believe Isiah Thomas is jealous of Steph Curry’s success
It is evident that positions are being utilized but players have only diversified the way each position is played. Irrespective of positions, players have developed or expanded their skill sets to help their teams win or stand out. Fans did not appreciate what Thomas had to say about Steph Curry being worthy enough to be called the greatest point guard of all time.

One fan said, “He’s salty Steph is the greatest PG ever.” Another fan added, “Lost all my respect for that guy after watching that episode lol.” Based on Thomas’ history of controversial comments, fans have been led to believe that he doesn’t like that Curry is being valued way more than he is. Thomas was previously regarded as arguably the greatest point guard ever, but specifically of his time.
Is Steph Curry the greatest point guard ever?
When it comes to defining what a point guard is, Steph Curry has every skill it takes to be one. Quite often, Curry’s shooting ability overthrows his playmaking skills. Steph has also been great at reading defensive plays. These things aren’t seen as much since he’s transitioned into the team’s top scorer. Curry’s playmaking abilities were on full display while Kevin Durant was on the team.
During the 80s, players like Isiah Thomas and Magic Johnson defined the point guard position. Curry certainly holds a lot of those values that make a point guard but he plays a completely different role on the Warriors’ roster. The legend has done enough to prove that he can play the position and dominate while at it.
