Every Boston Celtics home game has been a father-son day out for Jayson Tatum and his son Deuce. For the last few years, the 5-year-old has played a big role in the Celtics forward’s life. JT takes every opportunity to be around his son and if it meant that Deuce had to come to work, he would do exactly that. Much like how he spent a lot of time attending school and college classes with his mother when he was an infant.
“Daddy is my best friend” 😭🫶🏻 could their relationship be any cuter ?!? 🙌🏻 #Deuce #Tatum #Celtics #Bleedgreen

While most players try to keep their children out of the presence of media, Deuce and Jayson Tatum embrace it. “It’s kind of what I’m used to. I didn’t think it was that big of a deal, because, in the same light, I used to go to class with my mom all the time. So it just always seemed pretty normal to me, just different settings,” he said. But unlike Deuce, Jayson hated attending law school with his mother.

The Celtics’ MVP candidate found law school classes boring. He said, “I like to think that basketball games are a little more exciting than going to class with her.” His mother, Brandy, once had to argue with a professor to keep Jayson with her. She slammed the professor’s complaints saying that she paid for her classes and that young JT was of no disturbance. Brandy and Jayson have a beautiful relationship, much like his son and himself.
Deuce motivates Jayson Tatum to be the best version of himself
Jayson Tatum entered the league as a 19-year-old and not everyone at that age is responsible. Especially when you’re in the NBA, you get handed over heaps of money and fame with the worst kind of temptations on the side. For Jayson, he felt lucky to have Deuce around by then. Tatum claims that his son has been more of a guide to the right path.
“You know, even if you are a low-key guy, if you turn 19 and you get millions of dollars and all these resources and opportunity, you can get curious,” said Tatum. Jayson said that the birth of his son happened at the right time. He continued, “It kept me grounded, kept me at home. I’ll always have that responsibility. It was an adjustment at first, but now it’s just part of my everyday life.”
Deuce motivates his father to be the best version of himself on and off the court. “It motivates me to make the right decisions to be the best role model essentially on and off the court. And it just puts things in perspective, right?” Tatum admitted. Most NBA players are appreciative of their children. As many have admitted before, going home to their children keeps them level-headed and sane. Things aren’t any different between Jayson and Deuce either. Jayson Jr. is a celebrity among Celtics fans as well.
