The relationship between Karl-Anthony Towns and Jimmy Butler has intrigued fans for years. As we all know, Towns is a star player for the Minnesota Timberwolves and plays alongside Anthony Edwards. On the other hand, Jimmy is currently with the Miami Heat after having switched teams multiple times throughout his career.
Some NBA fans might be aware that there was a point in time when Butler and Towns seemed to be at loggerheads. This was quite surprising considering that they were playing on the same team. Jimmy soon left the Wolves and moved on. However, we never really found out what happened to his relationship with KAT.
Thankfully, Towns engaged in a podcast with his fellow NBA star Paul George. There he revealed what actually went down between him and Butler as well as what their current relationship is. Let us take a closer look and find out more.
Why were Karl-Anthony Towns and Jimmy Butler on bad terms?
Although Jimmy has certainly proven many haters wrong throughout his career, it was not the same case during the earlier stages. In fact, the media even created a narrative that Butler was toxic to the locker room and that it was a good move for the Wolves to trade him away.
In reality, Jimmy was simply unhappy with the way that the Wolves were organized and felt that the environment wasn’t appropriate for success or winning basketball. Therefore, he paired up with the lower tier teammates and challenged the starters from the Wolves to a game. Not only did Butler end up winning the game, but he also kept calling out players and abusing them throughout the pickup match.
As a result of that, along with other minor disagreements, Minnesota decided to move on from Butler. While one must assume that KAT bore some resentment towards Jimmy, he revealed that wasn’t the case since he held a sense of respect for Butler. He also shared that they still have a bond and that parting ways after being teammates did not turn them into enemies over the years.
“We had our differences. But we’ve seen each other at All Stars and you know, we’ve talked. I’ve asked how his family was and he asked how my family was and I think we at a cool spot.”
