SUMMARY
- Steph Curry currently ranks 30th on the All-time Scoring List.
- Despite starting his journey in 2009, Curry still ranks much lower than expected.
Steph Curry has a beautiful resume that a lot of his peers are envious of. It is very hard to dislike Curry and disregard what he has done over the years. He has fought through injuries and led the Golden State Warriors to fourth championships in 15 seasons. Not everybody has been able to stay consistent, especially with as many injuries as Steph has faced over the years. However, his work will forever be praised until the end of time.
But there is an interesting fact about the 2x league MVP and it’s that No.30 ranks 30th on the all-time scoring list. Considering that he hasn’t averaged below 20 points per game since the 2012-13 season, people believe that he should be higher up the scoring list. He has also had nearly three seasons where he’s put up at least 30 points per game. But he only recently surpassed Robert Parish on the scoring list. Here is a good explanation of why.
Steph Curry has missed multiple games throughout his tenure
Through his first three seasons in the league, Steph Curry battled through ankle injuries. It wasn’t easy for him to take too much damage on the floor which also restricted him from scoring more points. It was during his third season when Curry only appeared for 26 games averaging 14.7 points per piece. He ended up undergoing ankle surgery to fix a lingering issue that restricted him from competing at the highest level.
Why Stephen Curry is “only” 30th on the NBA’s all-time scoring list.

During the 2019-2020, Curry broke his left hand after appearing for only five games. Curry had a slow start that season but if he hadn’t gotten injured, it is with certainty that the All-Star would have fared at least 25 points per game. These injuries have also brought down the number of minutes played by Curry. Amongst the top 30 on the scoring list, Curry has the least minutes played with 32,306 (and counting). The point guard has also been benched multiple times during the fourth quarter.
How likely is Steph Curry to reach the top 10?
Considering that Steph Curry is already 36 years old, there isn’t much time left before he hands his jersey up for good. However, he has been averaging 27 points this season and it doesn’t seem like he’s anywhere near his decline. But when you see players like LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and James Harden, they have accumulated more points via free throws than Curry.
3⃣0⃣ is now No. 3⃣0⃣

Now, let us do some math to figure out if he will reach the top 10 scorers ever. Right now, Carmelo Anthony occupies the spot with 28,289 points. Let us assume that Curry plays for four more seasons and appears for at least 65 games each year. He would have to average 20 points per game consistently to surpass Anthony. But factors such as injuries also play a big role. He would have to stay healthy to play more games as well.
