Kyrie Irving’s blockbuster trade has all the NBA world been able to talk about in the last few days. He requested a trade to leave the Brooklyn Nets and the team granted it in the end. Kyrie Irving joined the Dallas Mavericks and even took part in a practice session recently.
The turmoil his trade caused remains the same, however. Many have raised questions over Kevin Durant’s future now that Kyrie isn’t a Nets player now. They do not have a superstar who can help the team win and this means the pressure will entirely be on KD. He was the first one among the two Nets superstars to request a trade in the summer of 2022, but the Nets managed to convince him to stay.
On the other hand, Kyrie will form a good partnership with Luka Doncic. But an interesting point that we can’t ignore is that he was heavily linked to the LA Lakers. Many believed that Kyrie will reunite with LeBron James and run it back once again. When that didn’t happen, it didn’t go down too well with the community, including 4x NBA champ Draymond Green.
Draymond Green believes Joe Tsai should have traded Kyrie Irving to the LA Lakers
On the Volume podcast, Dray said, “I am told that they would not trade him to the Lakers, and that is what I call billionaire petty. That is Joe Tsai saying, ‘Listen, man, that’s where he want to go? I don’t care if they offer the best deal or not. I can be petty too.’ And billionaire petty is a different level of petty. And not many people can compete with billionaire petty.”

Recently, several sources claimed that Joe Tsai outright refused to let Kyrie go to the Lakers. The reason for this has not been revealed to the NBA world until now. The Japanese billionaire has not addressed their claims as well.

The reports about Tsai have led Dray to believe that the Nets owner is just petty at the end of the day. He mentions that Tsai was not willing to even consider trading Irving to the team he wanted to go to. The fact that he did not join LeBron was a huge disappointment for many, including The King himself. But he has revealed that his focus now lies elsewhere.
Kyrie will be a crucial player for the Mavs, as he has been for multiple NBA franchises. He will be a free agent in the summer, and there are even reports of the Lakers entering the mix once again. Whatever the case, Irving’s quest for his second NBA title continues as he will have another shot this year with Luka Doncic.
