Nick Kyrgios recently made headlines for his decision to withdraw from Wimbledon due to a wrist injury that cropped up. Funnily enough, it seems the 28-year-old tennis superstar is keeping himself busy during his off time, by monitoring and commenting on the Boston Celtics’ endeavors in the off-season.
For those who don’t know, Kyrgios is a Boston Celtics superfan and has been repping the team for quite a while. It seems the Australian is quite a big NBA and basketball fan in general and chooses to bleed green religiously. He has ever gone to the extent of including “Boston Celtics” with a clover emoji in his Twitter bio.
Why did this have to happen. First possession of the game 💔 https://t.co/Xs4zdyo5SZ

Nicholas has been using his Twitter account as a medium to comment upon the Celtics’ performances to his legion of followers. He posted regularly during the playoffs commenting when players were playing well and when they weren’t and even empathized with Jayson Tatum when he went down with an ankle injury in the first possession of Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals versus the Miami Heat. However, there seems to be one player Kyrgios has gone after time and time again for his poor performances in the playoffs and it seems the Celtics management has considered his opinion.
What is the beef between Grant Williams and Nick Kyrgios?
Out of all the players previously on the 2022-2023 Boston Celtics roster, there was none more criticized by Kyrgios than Grant Williams. After a good regular season averaging 8 points and 5 rebounds as a perimeter defense-focused player, Grant turned out to have a terrible postseason run. Averaging barely 6 points and 1 rebound in the Conference quarter-finals, Williams’ play angered many Celctice fans including Kyrgios.
“Can we trade Grant Williams please?”
“How is Grant Williams still on this roster?”
“When will Grant Williams develop any sort of offensive bag 😓”
Nick Kyrgios apparently has beef with Williams 😅

After his all-time low performance in the Eastern Conference Semifinals versus the Philadelphia 76ers, in which he averaged 2.3 points and 2 rebounds in multiple games where played over 20 minutes. This has led to a slew of tweets from Kyrgios concerning Williams including “Bro pipe down Grant Williams you are gonna lose the game for us”, and “Ever since Grant Williams has opened his mouth the whole momentum has changed. Good one grant, you are a genius.”, and “Can we trade grant williams please.”

Kyrgios had mentioned back in February when Grant was having a similar sour patch of games, that he wanted the Celtics front office to trade him. It seems Nicholas finally got his wish, as the Celtics orchestrated a sign and trade with Williams where he was signed to a 4-year $54,000,000 deal and then promptly traded to the Dallas Mavericks in a three-team trade, in which Boston received 2 second round picks back.
