Brittney Griner did not hold back and voiced her thoughts and strong opinions when asked about discrimination against transgender athletes. As we all know, Griner is a WNBA star currently with the Phoenix Mercury and has come out to reveal herself as a homosexual.
Although homosexuals and transgenders are quite different sexual orientations, both of them fall under the LGBTQ+ community. Therefore, the media felt that Brittney Griner would be an ideal person to question on this issue. Let us take a closer look at what she was asked about Transgender athletes and how she chose to respond to the questions.
Brittney Griner opines that transgender athletes should be allowed to compete with biological women
The issues of homosexuals, transgenders, and the LGBTQ+ community have grown in recent times. To those who are unaware, a transgender is someone with Gender Dysphoria who identifies with the opposite sex as opposed to the one given at birth. Some have claimed that this is a mental disorder while others have defended them and their rights to identify and feel however they want.
This is quite a complicated issue and everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Brittney was asked about hers and whether she considered the new laws that prevented trans people from competing to be valid. While replying to the question, Griner made her stance on this issue quite clear.

“Oh I mean that ranks high on the list of things that I’ll be fighting for and speaking up against you know everyone has…everyone deserves the right to play. Everyone deserves the right to come here, sit in these seats and feel safe. And not feel like there’s a threat or they cant be who they are or it’s just like all eyes on them…So I think it’s a crime honestly to separate someone for any reason. So I definitely will be speaking up against that legislation and those laws that are trying to be passed.”
BG certainly has a point in claiming that everyone deserves the right to feel comfortable in their own skin. However, the reasoning behind banning transgenders is based on the fact that being biologically male gives them an advantage over female athletes, regardless of how they feel.
We hope Griner keeps that in mind if she continues to voice this perspective in the future. After all, it would simply be unfair to the biological women athletes who have been working hard to achieve in their sport of choice.
