The Detroit Pistons, one of the renowned teams in the NBA, have recently been the subject of a viral and misleading, post claiming that they have a record of 3-77 in their last 80 games. This claim comes from a fake account copying the popular NBA page ‘Hoop Central’ and has been debunked.
The Pistons have actually performed slightly better, going 12-68 in their last 80 games. Not to mention this record is still very disappointing. The team’s struggles were further highlighted in their recent 129-111 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers. This defeat marked the longest losing streak in the franchise’s history.
The current season has been particularly challenging for the team, as they now stand at a disappointing 2-23 record. After starting the season with a promising 2-1, including wins against the Charlotte Hornets and Chicago Bulls, the Pistons have since been on a downward path, losing 21 consecutive games.

Their last win was on October 28, over a month and a half ago, in a 118-102 win against the Bulls. The team has been struggling on both ends of the court, allowing an average of 118 points per game while scoring only 108, ranking as the third-lowest in the league. In terms of scoring averages, their performance puts them ahead of just the Portland Trail Blazers and the Memphis Grizzlies.
Detroit Pistons close to setting an unexpected NBA record
The Detroit Pistons’ ongoing struggles in the NBA are making them closer to an embarrassing record. Their recent loss to the Philadelphia 76ers with a 124-92 scoreboard pushed their season record down to 2-23. This loss, on the road, continued their longest losing streak in the franchise’s history, now at 22 games.
They are getting closer to the NBA record of 28 straight losses, which was set by the 76ers between the end of the 2014–15 season and the start of the 2015–16 season. Entering the season with goals of competing for a play-in tournament spot, particularly with the talents of former No. 1 overall pick Cade Cunningham, the Pistons have instead found themselves in a terrible situation.
Their next opportunity to break this losing streak comes against the Milwaukee Bucks. Detroit’s decline can be clearly seen in betting odds, which now usually position them as double-figure underdogs.
According to Stathead, their current .080 winning percentage puts them on track to potentially surpass the 2011-12 Charlotte Bobcats’ record for the worst winning percentage in league history, which is at .106. Due to a strike, that season was cut short, with the Bobcats managing just 7 victories in 66 games.
Also, the Pistons are at risk of setting the worst record across an 82-game regular season. Currently, the 1972-73 Philadelphia 76ers hold this title with a 9-73 record. As the season progresses, the Detroit Pistons face the challenge of avoiding this historic low.
