Mo Bamba is one of the recent additions to the Los Angeles Lakers. He entered the league in the 2018-2019 NBA season and is currently in his 5th year. Although he was added to the Lakers to reinforce their strength at the center position, injuries have prevented him from consistently stepping on the court for his team.
While some fans might already know what Mo is capable of doing and what he brings to the table, the same cannot be said about his personal life and activities outside the court. With that being said, let us take a closer look at his religious beliefs.
Mo Bamba was raised as a devout Muslim
It would surprise a fair share of fans who don’t know Bamba’s backstory to hear that he is a follower of Islam and a devout one at that. Although the Western world is inclined towards Christianity, several people from other backgrounds and cultures practice the religion and beliefs that were passed onto them from their families.
Mo Bamba is one of those people. In fact, the full form of his name alone is indicative of his religious upbringing. To those who are unaware, his full name is Mohamed Karlakwan Damala Bamba and he was born to Lancine Bamba and Aminata Johnson on May 12 in 1998.
Despite the fact that Mo follows Islam, he is still a citizen of the United States considering that he was born in Harlem, New York. His parents were immigrants from the Republic of Côte d’ivoire, a country located on the Southern coast of West Africa. The country is estimated to have 78 different languages, with the official language being French. It is also nicknamed the “Ivory Coast” and is considered home to a diverse population with varying religious beliefs.
That is the origin land for Mo Bamba and the starting point of his journey to the NBA. Despite being culturally and religiously different when compared to his peers, Bamba has managed to kick-start his NBA career. After all, his impressive height and wingspan have made him quite a useful commodity in the league.
Mo Bamba’s career is still very young and he has a lot of life left to live ahead. His being Muslim and having immigrant parents have undoubtedly played a role in his hunger for success and accomplishment.
