Kyrie Irving is one of the greatest NBA players of our generation. As much as he has contributed to the beautiful game we all love, he has gotten into controversy many times. The latest update on Kyrie’s life is that he is officially without a sneaker brand. For context, Kyrie got into hot water when he posted that tweet about a movie containing anti-Semitic remarks. This caused Nike to terminate their contract with him.
Kyrie Irving is no longer a Nike athlete, Nike spokesperson says. The sides have parted ways one month after Nike suspended its relationship with the Nets star. Irving has one of most popular signatures shoes in the NBA and is now a sneaker free agent.

Although he doesn’t have a professional partnership with the brand anymore, Kyrie will be proud of his first-ever signature shoe. The former Cleveland Cavaliers star signed a deal with the brand in 2014. This was when he paid a tribute to his mother through one of his signature shoes.
Who is Kyrie Irving’s mother?
Kyrie Irving’s mother is Elizabeth Irving, and his father is Drederick Irving. Elizabeth’s death came in 1996 when she was just 29. At that time, Kyrie was just 4 years old, which meant he wasn’t old enough to understand his mother’s death. The cause of her death is not known to the world, but many sources claim that it was an unexpected illness that took her away.

Kyrie did not have an easy childhood when he was growing up. He had to deal with his problems and become a realist. With that said, he wanted to have a connection with his mother who passed away when he was just a young child. Irving did this by deciding to have his mother’s date of birth, her name (Elizabeth), and her date of death. Behind this, the letters “JBY” are also included, which is Kyrie’s motto, and stands for “Just Be You”.

Kyrie also paid respect to Elizabeth’s memory in other ways. For those who don’t know, the NBA star was born in Melbourne, Australia. This was where he grew up during his early childhood with his siblings and both his parents. He has also commemorated that by having the spikes and an aggressive look at the back of the shoe. The Sydney Opera House inspired this, according to Leo Chang, the lead designer for the Kyrie line.
That’s not all about Kyrie’s relationship with his mother. He was given a nickname by the Standing Rock Sioux tribe, which his mother was in. The Nets guard seems to have grown fond of it, as he now has it as his Twitter name. As for his signature shoes, Nike seems to have found a replacement, but Kyrie hasn’t signed a new deal just yet. It would be intriguing for fans to see if it would be more special than his first signature shoe with Nike.
