Former Phoenix Suns coach Monty Williams has been through a great deal over the last year. As fans might be aware, his team has not been playing well for the last couple of years considering that they made the NBA Finals in 2021. Moreover, he has also been dealing with the emotional and physical loss of his wife’s passing.
One can only imagine what it is like to lose a treasured loved one. Especially one that you assumed to grow old with. Considering that Monty is only 51 years old, he never really got enough time with her. As a result of this, he shared his method of coping with this tragic loss. Let us take a closer look and find out what he has to say on this issue.
How did Monty Williams’ wife die?
Many people die through natural causes and there isn’t really much that their loved ones can do about it. However, that was not the case for Monty Williams. To those who do not know, the former Phoenix Suns coach was married to a woman named Ingrid Williams. She passed away in a tragic car accident back in 2016.
According to the reports, she was hit head-on by a Sedan coming from the opposite direction. To make matters scarier, she had her three children inside the car with her and their family dog. She and the dog were instantly killed. Thankfully, all three children managed to survive the accident.
To add insult to injury, it was later revealed that she had a significant amount of methamphetamine in her system. This is a dangerous drug and could seriously compromise the focus of the user.
In any case, Monty loved her dearly and revealed that he pretends that she is still alive. This is quite saddening and indicates that he is unable to move on.
“I still text her. It’s not like I know she’s going to answer, but it’s just part of what I do. I’ll go outside at night and I’ll just look up in the sky and start talking to her. When you’ve been somebody for 26 years and married for 20, you would just have to be around us to know what we were like.”
It is troubling to hear that Williams has lost his wife and is struggling to cope with it. His professional life hasn’t been going well either considering that he has just been fired from being the Phoenix Suns head coach. We wish him the best and hope that he is able to find happiness.
