Almost every NBA fan in the world knows about LeBron James. The Los Angeles Lakers star is arguably one of the greatest players in the history of basketball and has a career filled with accolades and accomplishments. He recently surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and is currently the NBA’s all-time leading scorer heading into Year 21 with the Lakers.
Although there is no denying that James found incredible success in the NBA, the same can be said about his time in high school prior to being drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2003 NBA Draft. Veteran fans who have been following King James since his early days will be aware that he attended high school at St. Vincent St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio.
That is where LeBron fell under the radar of several NBA scouts and analysts. Some fans might remember that LeBron was part of a team that was nicknamed the Fab 5 and still remains close to his old teammates to this day. However, not many of us might be able to recall his accomplishments with the Fab 5 in high school. With that being said, let us take a closer look at how many state championships a young LeBron won.
LeBron James won 3 state championships while attending St. Vincent St. Mary High School
Entering high school in his freshman year, LeBron was already a phenom. He was listed at 6’2 and was a force like no other that the school had ever seen. During his first year with the Fighting Irish, LeBron averaged 21 points and 6 rebounds. More importantly, he helped the team win the Division State Title with a perfect record of 27-0.
King James also managed to help his team win the State championship the next year while averaging 25.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 5.8 assists. He was named Ohio Mr. Basketball and already considered a future NBA star by this point in time.
His third year of high school was the only time when LeBron James and the Fab 5 were unable to win a State championship. Despite having an impressive 34-4 record, the team ended up losing the Division II championship game.
In order to make up for that unexpected loss, LeBron elevated his play during his final year in high school. He averaged 31.6 points, 9.6 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 3.4 steals per game to help the Fighting Irish win their 3rd state title in 4 years.
We all know what happened after that. King James decided to skip college and declare himself for the 2003 NBA Draft and began his illustrious NBA career from that point.
