The area that Dejounte Murray grew up in isn’t necessarily known for being the safest. Murray has always spoken about his troubled upbringing that caused serious issues when he was younger. He claimed that he grew up around drugs and crime. And by the age of six, he was well aware of the idea of narcotics. At 11, Dejounte was put into juvenile detention.
His parents? They weren’t too involved in his life for a long time. He claimed that his mother spent most of his childhood battling with the law while making frequent visits to prison. However, Murray turned his life around after he came out of detention. He attended Rainier Beach High School and took inspiration from the institution’s alumni, Jamal Crawford.
Dejounte Murray maintains a great bond with his father despite their turbulent past
It was certainly a time of struggle when Dejounte Murray was a mere teenager. However, he holds no grudges against his parents, who were responsible for his rift with the law at the age of 11. John Murray has also owned up to his mistakes and acknowledged that he should’ve been there for Dejounte while he was a child. The NBA still maintains a beautiful relationship with his father and younger sister, Jacaiyah.

“We had our differences for almost 7-8 years and I just want a relationship with my dad before it’s too late. And not have one of living with regrets of not being a man and fixing the problems we had,” he said according to TMZ. Dejounte takes good care of his immediate family. He once gifted his father and his sister cars on special occasions.
