SUMMARY
- Brittney Griner currently plays for the Phoenix Mercury in the WNBA.
- She is listed at 6'9" feet weighing in at 205lbs with a wingspan of 7'2" feet.
Brittney Griner is possibly one of the most spectacular individuals to have stepped on a WNBA court. She has been a part of the league since 2013 delivering consistent numbers throughout her career. The 33-year-old was the No.1 overall pick during the 2013 WNBA Draft when the Phoenix Mercury selected her. Griner grew into a legend of the female basketball scene and she could easily be one of the greatest ever to do it as well.
The Mercury center has picked up multiple accolades over the years, leading the league in blocked shots for a total of eight times. Despite being a defensive specialist, Griner also led the league in scoring twice. In 2014, she helped the Mercury win the WNBA championship. The 19x WNBA All-Star had a couple of stints overseas in China and Russia. However, after facing a terrifying ordeal in Russia back in 2022, Griner hasn’t signed to any team outside of the US.
Brittney Griner is listed at 6-foot 9-inches tall
If there is one thing Brittney Griner is known for, it’s her height. The 2x WNBA Peak Performer is currently one of the tallest players in the league. The basketball gods blessed her with incredible height which has played to her advantage over the years. She’s been able to score relentlessly in the paint and also defend the ball at the rim. Right now, Griner ranks third in all-time blocks recorded, behind Sylvia Fowles and Margo Dydek.

According to various sources, Brittney Griner stands at 6-foot-9 inches tall. Despite being on the leaner side, Griner weighs around 200lbs (listed at 205lbs in 2023). Griner also has a vertical leap of 24 inches, which is just above the average jump in the WNBA. It is unclear where she stands amongst other players in this category. Griner also had a wingspan larger than most others at 7’2” feet. This has worked well to her advantage on the court.
Brittney Griner is the third tallest active player in the WNBA
Despite all the criticism WNBA players have received in the past, one thing is for sure, they are incredibly talented. Brittney Griner isn’t the tallest ever to play in the league but she is the third tallest active player behind Han Xu of the New York Liberty. Xu entered the league in 2019 as the No.14 overall pick. The Liberty player is the third tallest WNBA player ever listed at 6’10” feet.
This makes Griner the fourth tallest WNBA athlete ever. Xu is tied with Bernadett Hatar who was listed at 6’10” feet as well. Hatar currently oscillates between Women’s EuroLeague and WNBA but is actively signed to the Connecticut Sun. Margo Dydek, a legend of the game stood at 7’2” feet. Unfortunately, Dydek passed away in 2011 (at age 37), three years after she retired from the WNBA and went back to Brisbane, Australia.
