WNBA Superstar Brittney Griner was detained in Russia over a year ago for carrying vape cartridges. During her time in prison, the world outside of her went berserk to know about the former Olympian. There were a lot of stories about her personal life that scratched the surface following her arrest. Including ones of her dating life, sexual identity, and her past in general. One specific detail caught the eye of the public.
Back in 2015, the Phoenix Mercury legend married Glory Johnson, who is also a WNBA player. Griner claimed that she went ahead with marriage under “duress” and ended up having children via an IVF. Shortly after having twins, Griner filed for divorce. The rumor began after the divorce that Brittney began a new relationship with the NBA’s Anthony Davis.
Whoever made that rumor up about me being engaged is corny. I am NOT engaged people!!

It was speculated that they even got engaged to each other at one point. The rumors got so out of hand that Davis addressed the masses via Twitter. He said, “Whoever made that rumor up about me being engaged is corny. I am NOT engaged people!!” Whether it is true or not, Griner in fact began her relationship with her current wife, Cherelle Griner. They both tied the knot in 2020 and have been happily living together ever since.
Anthony Davis showers Brittney Griner with love following her release
There is no proof of Brittney Griner and Anthony Davis’ relationship. This is not the only time Griner has been speculated to have a relationship with an NBA player. Midway through her arrest, a video of her kissing Kevin Durant on the cheek resurfaced on the internet. Either way, it sure seems like Griner is good friends with Durant and Davis outside of work.
Following her release, Davis released a statement that said, “Being in Russia for as long as she was, inhumane living conditions. I think they showed the bed she was living in. When I first saw her, I didn’t know it was her because she cut her dreads. I don’t know if it was voluntarily or what. But it’s always good to have one of your own back.” He continued to express how glad he was that Griner was back on home turf.

The first time Brittney Griner made an appearance in front of the camera was when she entered the Phoenix Mercury gym back in March. Present at the gym was KD. The two shared a long embrace showing how happy they were to see each other once again.
Brittney was in a rather horrible situation. In August 2022, she was sentenced to nine years in prison at the Russian Penal Colonies. However, things miraculously turned around in December after the Russians agreed to swap her for Viktor Bout.
