Jiri Prochazka appeared alongside ESPN journalist Ariel Helwani and shared his thoughts on what lies ahead of him after an emphatic win over #1 title contender Dominick Reyes last weekend at UFC Vegas 25. The Czech Republic native has garnered huge attention owing to his explosive fighting style. Jiri likes to pressure his opponents, and never shies away from engaging in a striking battle inside the Octagon.
However, ahead of a potential title opportunity, Jiri Prochazka has suggested that he might make some changes to his fighting style. While Jiri showed improved defense against Dominick Reyes, there were moments where he ate clean shots from the former title challenger, who seemed to rock Jiri at one point.
“I need to change that. I like to keep the fight in the pressure, but when you keep this highest pressure, you need to calm with these counters. Dominick’s counters were so technical, and some of them were hard too. So that was the little problem.”
Needless to say, the same kind of approach could prove to be heavy against Jan Blachowicz who has proved his striking credentials time and again. Additionally, the legendary Polish Power will be on display against a pressure fighter like Jiri Prochazka. It will be a huge win for Jiri Prochazka should he triumph over Jan Blachowicz. The light-heavyweight contender landed the title opportunity with a win over Corey Anderson and followed it up with a title win over Dominick Reyes. Jan Blachowicz then went on to become the first fighter to hand a loss to Israel Adesanya in mixed martial arts and is now set to defend his light heavyweight championship one more time against MMA veteran Glover Teixeira.
Jiri Prochazka is a dangerous match-up for any fighter
Prochazka announced his arrival in the UFC with a notable KO win over a credible opponent in the form of Volkan Oezdemir. In his second fight, Jirka followed it up with a scintillating spinning elbow KO of Dominick Reyes. Needless to say, having jumped to the second spot just behind Glover Teixeira, everything points towards Prochazka fighting for the Championship belt next.
However, the light-heavyweight contender has opened up the idea of fighting Aleksandr Rakic should the UFC ask him to do so before the title fight. If Jiri decides to wait out the winner of Jan Blachowicz vs Glover Teixeira scheduled to take place later this year in September, it will be a while before we see Jirka back inside the Octagon.
