Conor McGregor recently took to Twitter to give an update about his return to the UFC Octagon. The former two-weight champion suffered a horrific leg injury in the closing moments of the first round against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 and has been sidelined for at least six months due to the injury.
Recently, news of McGregor competing in a wheelchair charity bout in September went viral, however, the Notorious denied it by addressing the fans about his potential return to the cage. Here’s what the former UFC’s featherweight and lightweight champion had to say.
Guys, the September date is too early for me. I am still in recovery. My docs/physical therapy team out here advice me to stay. I reckon late October at earliest. But maybe November/December too. It is hard to say at this time a concrete date. But I’m in! Wait for me please! ????

Conor McGregor, despite the injury, has been grinding inside the gym, looking more determined than ever to step back inside the Octagon. While many believe it’s tough to make a comeback from an injury like this, McGregor is confident that he can return to the top, and has promised an ear;y 2022 return from the looks of it. While he did mention a return in November/December is a possibility, it’s hard to imagine McGregor returning to the cage in just over six months since the leg break.
Additionally, it won’t be wrong to say that should McGregor return in December this year, he might not be at his absolute best. In the past, several UFC fighters have returned after facing career-threatening injuries. The likes of Tony Ferguson and Anderson Silva definitely come to mind, who have shown that it is possible to bounce back from injuries and still perform at their best inside the UFC Octagon.
McGregor has the age factor on his side, and at just 33 years of age, he has ample time to make necessary adjustments and bounce back stronger than ever. UFC president Dana White has already set his eyes on the fourth bout between McGregor and Poirier, and it will be interesting to whether the Notorious will get to fight Poirier on his UFC return, or whether he will have another opponent to triumph over before getting the grudge match against the top-ranked lightweight contender. Only time will tell.
