Katherine Schwarzenegger hasn’t had your average childhood. After all, not many can say that their dad is a 7-time Mr. Olympia winner, the former Governor of California, and above all, Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Despite this, Katherine was ‘mortified’ when her uber-famous pops decided to drop her at school. It wasn’t exactly under the radar, either. It wasn’t until Arnold decided to drop his daughter in a Hummer, that Katherine realised she was different from other kids.
On “The Nikki and Brie Show”, Katherine recounted her experiences growing up. She said, “I remember the only time really realizing like, ‘Okay, this is different,’ because my dad would drop us off at school in a Hummer that had no windows, no doors and no roof — and I was mortified.”
She continued, “He would pull up to carpool and I was [like], ‘Can you please drop me off down the street? Please, I’m so embarrassed. Can we please just take the minivan? Like, this is not my vibe. I just don’t like this at all.'”
However, as Katherine got older, she began to understand the perks of having a famous father. She realised that she started gaining more attention from guys in her grade, and that’s when things changed. She said, “And then as I got older, the boys in my grade became much more interested in my dad. That was the time where I was like, ‘Okay, this is different for me.'”
Arnold is proud of daughter Katherine Schwarzenegger and her parenting skills
It’s always a treat when you grow up, and your kids have kids of their own. You can then see what they learnt from you, and what they added to that existing arsenal of knowledge. Such is the case with Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is incredibly proud of Katherine, 31, the oldest of Arnold’s five children. Katherine Schwarzenegger is married to Marvel alum Chris Pratt, with whom she has two young daughters, Eloise and Lyla.
Arnold expressed his admiration for his daughter’s parenting skills. In an interview with People, he said, “It’s nice to see your kids having kids themselves and to watch this new dimension.”
He continued, “You see them growing up and you see them going to school and getting smart and getting their degrees, getting their jobs and all this, but now seeing them be a parent? It’s fantastic. It’s really great.”
Arnold loves spending time with his grandchildren, who frequent his home. He said in the same interview, “I just love when she comes over to my house or when I go over there, but most of the time she comes to my house because I have all the animals.”
He continued on the same topic, “The grandchildren love the animals. I have a pig, so now they want to come over there and feed the pig all the time, hang out with the little pig.”
He added that he has a newfound sense of pride for his daughter, who he thinks is incredible with kids. He said, “It’s really fun to watch and hang out with her now and to see the way she’ll react to the kids because she is so great with them.”
While a young Katherine Schwarzenegger may have been embarrassed by her world-famous father, she eventually embraced it. Now, she has grown into the role of a parent herself, and is evidently doing a great job.
