Jose Aldo is widely regarded as one of the greatest featherweight fighters of all time. The former featherweight champion has etched his name in history books and continues to further cement his legacy as an all-time great. Jose Aldo stands at 5ft 7in and is a bronze medalist in the World Jiu-Jitsu Championship.
Aldo is known for his proficient striking, his vicious leg kicks, and his incredible submission game that makes him one of the most complete fighters in the UFC roster. However, there’s another thing that has grabbed the attention of fight fans around the world, and that is the scar on his face.
Jose Aldo’s nickname is Scarface
Jose Aldo carries the monicker of Scarface owing to the huge scar on his face. Jose Aldo got the scar on his face after his sister rolled him onto a lit barbeque leaving a permanent scar on his face. The incident happened when Aldo’s eldest sibling Joseline tossed Aldo in his crib to his sister, who fell face-first on the barbeque, leaving him with the scar.
“I don’t mind explaining where I got the scar. I was just a baby and my mom wasn’t paying attention for a moment when my sisters rolled me onto the barbecue pit being used for a 1986 World Cup party.”
Jose Aldo has since then carried the monicker Scarface, and while many might credit the Brian De Palma directorial 1983 Hollywood classic Scarface, that’s not the case.

Aldo got the nickname owing to the distinguishable scar on his face. In another interview back in 2009, Aldo had put it shortly, “They were playing around and threw me in there. It was hot. I was a little baby. They were little kids.”
The rise and fall of Jose Aldo
After enjoying a spectacular 18 fight win-streak, Jose Aldo fell short against Conor McGregor back at UFC 192, and in the process dropping his featherweight title. It won’t be wrong to say that Jose Aldo hasn’t been the same ever since. Coming from a poor family, Jose Aldo made a name for himself as the greatest featherweight of all time.
However, after losing back-to-back stoppage losses against Max Holloway, Aldo would go on to drop a unanimous decision loss against Alexander Volkanovski, prompting him to drop down to bantamweight. Aldo has looked incredible in the new weight class and will look to further cement his legacy.
