Previously, Jan made his UFC debut in 2014, knocking out Ilir Latifi. However, things did not go to plan as the Polish fighter soon found himself with a less-than-ideal 2-4 record in his first six fights. Thus, there was a growing belief that Jan would soon be let go from the UFC.
However, it was at this time, Jan’s fiance, Dorota Jurkowska took matters into her own hands. “Oh my God, I thought he was going to get fired. Seriousl,” Jurkowska told ESPN. “I was expecting that email to say he was gone. I was emailing [UFC matchmaker] Mick Maynard immediately”. Trading emails with Mick Maynard, Dorota was able to convince the UFC to give Jan one more chance.
As fate would have it, the UFC had a card planned in Poland. Thus, Dorota was able to get Jan on the card, stating his popularity in the area as a key selling point. On the night, Jan faced Devin Clark and was able to secure a resounding victory, that too with a standing rear naked choke no less. Since that night, Jan would go on to accomplish great things and even become the light heavyweight champion.

Further, in December 2020, the couple welcomed their son, Jan Blachowicz Jr into the world. At the time, the couple was ecstatic to share the news with Jan hailing his partner to be “stronger than a world champion”.
Over the years, Jan has enjoyed some big victories during his time in the UFC. Be it winning the title against Dominick Reyes at UFC 253 or defending his title against Israel Adesanya at UFC 259. Despite losing the title to Glover Teixeira at UFC 267, Blachowicz remains focused and determined that he can be champion once again.
