After the competition, Biles told NBC Sports, “We’re still in working steps. My main goal was this and then the championship…And then after that, we’ll look on to worlds and then we’ll see. But so far it’s heading in the right direction. But I still have to work on myself. I’m still going to do my therapy, I’m going to put myself first.”
This was Biles’ first win after the 2020 Tokyo Olympics where she withdrew from the final events due to struggling with the twisties. After giving time to herself and as she started training again, she overcame her initial fear of twisting.
Simone Biles’ triumphant return after two years break from gymnastics
Two years after the Tokyo Olympics, Simone Biles made a triumphant return to the world of gymnastics in suburban Chicago, where she won the competition by a huge margin. As she returned, Biles truly impressed everyone with an extremely difficult sky-high tumble and a double-flip vault, which had never been performed by any female gymnast.
“It just makes my heart warm because it’s nice to come out here and have all that support, especially in a time like this where I was really nervous to compete again,” the legend told the reporters.
Nowhere during her performance, did Biles show signs of the twisties that she suffered during the Tokyo Olympics, and once again, Simone Biles returned back to her old form.
Biles worked on her mental well-being during her time off the sports. She shared that she still goes to therapy and feels butterflies during the competition. After high-level training and winning the eighth Olympic title, Simone Biles’s next stage might be the 2024 Paris Olympics. But as of now, she is taking things slow which is one step at a time.
