SUMMARY
- Carlos Sainz will leave Scuderia Ferrari following the 2024 F1 season.
- The Spaniard has been linked with several teams, including Red Bull, Mercedes and Audi.
Lewis Hamilton recently solved the missing piece in Ferrari’s puzzle by striking a massive multi-million dollar deal with the Maranello outfit. Interestingly though, the seven-time world champion’s rather unanticipated move to Ferrari has inadvertently caused a chain of events, starting with Carlos Sainz. The Spaniard has had a reasonably successful stint with the Reds and was on the verge of extending his contract beyond 2024.
However, things went haywire when John Elkann sniffed a chance with his favorite and long-time target Hamilton, leaving Sainz without a seat for 2025. Of course, the two-time race winner has been linked to several teams since the shocking news broke out, one of which seemed rather practical – Red Bull Racing.
The fact that Sainz previously worked with the Milton Keynes family only further solidified the rumor. And of course, not to forget, Sainz would be joining Max Verstappen at Red Bull and not its sister outfit, Visa Cash App RB. However, things aren’t looking as bright for Sainz, despite the hint of interest from Christian Horner and Co.
Dr. Helmut Marko recently uncovered the one factor that is obstructing Sainz from moving to Red Bull Racing.
Why Red Bull may not sign Carlos Sainz for 2025
Indeed, Horner would be happy to welcome Sainz back to the Red Bull family. But, by the looks of it, the Spaniard isn’t necessarily making things easy for his former team. According to Marko, Sainz is rushing to make a decision while Red Bull isn’t looking too keen on following the 29-year-old’s trajectory.

“Sainz probably wants to make a decision sooner than we do,” Marko said. Unlike Sainz, Red Bull has abundant options to choose from. In fact, the Milton Keynes outfit is already juggling with three different drivers, Sergio Perez, Yuki Tsunoda, and Daniel Ricciardo, all of whom are chasing after the lone second seat at Red Bull.
Furthermore, there could also be a fourth driver in Liam Lawson, who made an impression last year during Ricciardo’s absence. Therefore, with potentially four drivers contending for one seat, Marko is anything but thrilled to welcome a fifth candidate in Sainz.
Of course, the Spaniard does have the capacity to overpower his fellow competitors, but is Red Bull prepared to take a big risk and sign Ferrari’s two-time race winner according to his terms? Let’s see what the future holds for the two parties.
