Charles Leclerc and Ferrari are reportedly in talks for a contract extension. As expected, Leclerc has doubts regarding Ferrari’s capability of providing a Championship-winning car in the coming years.
Charles Leclerc’s current contract with Ferrari will last till the end of 2024. There have been rumors that Leclerc might be on his way to Mercedes, but the rumors were shot down by both Leclerc and Toto Wolff.
Charles has often claimed that it has always been his dream to drive for Ferrari. So it doesn’t seem likely that he would leave the team just because they have had a rough couple of years.
Can Ferrari help Charles Leclerc win a Championship?
Charles Leclerc is considered one of the rare talents in the sport. He signed his first contract with Ferrari in 2019 in hopes of winning a Championship. Although they had a good year in 2019, 2020 did not look so good.
Charles Leclerc’s hopes to win a Championship came alive again in 2022 after he was leading the WDC after an initial couple of races. But his hopes were again brought down due to reliability issues with the power unit and bad calls in strategy.
Although they were once again hoping to fight for the Championship in 2023, Red Bull proved to be much faster than them once again. Ferrari is now trying to find a way back to winning Championships.

Recent reports have suggested that Ferrari has given Charles reassurances when it comes to performance. Charles has made it very clear that his focus stays on winning a Championship for himself. We know that Charles has a clause under his current contract allowing him to opt out of the contract if the team does not score a certain amount of points. There are chances that there will be a similar clause in Charles’s potential new contract.

The last Championship won by Ferrari was in 2007. This is currently the longest Ferrari has gone without winning a Championship. However, Ferrari has come close to developing a Championship-winning car over the years. Now let us wait and see if they can take that extra step to develop the car that will beat every other car on the grid and give Charles a shot at the Championship.
