David Benavidez vs Jose Uzcategui is off! The two-time WBC super-middleweight champion has tested positive for coronavirus and is out from his highly anticipated title defense on Aug. 28 against Jose Uzcategui.
David Benavidez (24-0) was coming off an incredible TKO win over Ronald Ellis. He was last seen inside the boxing ring earlier this year in March, where he defended his WBC gold for the second time. Needless to say, the news has disappointed many boxing fans around the world who were eagerly waiting for the return of David Benavidez.
While there has been no confirmation whether Jose Uzcategui will have a new opponent. It is expected that the bout will be rescheduled for a later date.
David Benavidez is widely regarded as one of the greatest boxers of all time and is currently ranked #1 in the list of active super-middleweight by The Ring.

Jose Uzcategui is a former IBF super-middleweight champion. After dropping the title to Caleb Plant back in June of 2019, Jose made a triumphant return to the ring with a KO win over Roberto Valdez. However, he would go on to lose his next bout via unanimous decision against Lionell Thompson.
Be that as it may, he made jumped back to the winning column with back-to-back stoppage wins over Josue Obando and Jaime Hernandez to earn the shot at the title once again.

Meanwhile, Benavidez was looking to add another feather to his cap by taking on the former champion Jose Uzcategui later this month. Needless to say, it is unfortunate news, and we wish for a speedy recovery for Benavidez.
