WWE Superstar Cody Rhodes has been the biggest babyface in the Stamford-based promotion ever since he began his second run in it. The speculation about Cody’s return initially started right after his AEW contract expired in February 2022.
Cody’s AEW exit was an absolute shock for pro wrestling fans, as he had a massive role in the success of the Jacksonville-based promotion. But, as it’s said, every ending is the start of a new beginning, this happened with Rhodes also. After his All Elite Wrestling exit, The American Nightmare made his WWE return at WrestleMania 38 and gave a great performance against Seth Rollins.
Following Cody Rhodes’ return to his former company at WrestleMania 38 in April 2022, it was reported that The American Nightmare had signed a multi-year deal with the company. His latest WWE contract is said to be a lucrative one, as it provides him with a lot of luxuries. Cody is estimated to be making millions through his latest contract.
Cody’s WWE contract includes a strong in-ring character plan for “The American Nightmare”. His contract also includes title reigns with the WWE Championship and also provides him the opportunity to work in Hollywood and reality television.
Is Cody Rhodes leaving WWE?
The American Nightmare returned to the Triple H-led promotion in 2022, and as per the reports, his WWE contract started in April 2022. His contract was initially referred to as a multi-year deal only, but now it’s been reported that his WWE contract is supposed to end in April 2025.
Looking at the facilities The American Nightmare is receiving from the Stamford-based promotion, it seems he’ll continue to have a great run under this contract. Cody hasn’t won any championships under his latest WWE run, however, he is rumored to be winning a top prize at next year’s Wrestlemania.
If everything goes well and Cody’s body continues to help him perform as brilliantly as he currently does, Rhodes will probably renew his WWE contract after it expires in April 2025.
Why did Cody Rhodes leave AEW?
Cody Rhodes’ return to Triple H-led promotion has been well-received by pro wrestling fans, especially in the WWE universe. However, a lot of people wonder why he left his previous promotion, AEW, and if it was due to money.
The actual reason behind Cody’s AEW exit was revealed by The American Nightmare himself. Rhodes revealed this in WWE’s recent documentary “American Nightmare: Becoming Cody Rhodes“.
Speaking about his AEW exit, Cody said, “I can’t tell you why I left AEW. I can’t, and I won’t. But I can tell you the reasons that were said that didn’t actually matter. I didn’t leave AEW because of money, and I didn’t leave AEW because of other talents. I left AEW because of a personal issue — that’s it.” (Via: Wrestling Inc)
Looking at the amount of love Cody has received from the WWE universe since his return to Triple H-led promotion, it seems Cody Rhodes’ decision to leave AEW was the right thing. The American Nightmare is currently involved in a rivalry with Brock Lesnar, and they’ll now be fighting at SummerSlam 2023. It’ll be interesting to see if Rhodes’ can conquer Brock Lesnar on August 5, or not.
