Tyson Fury is best known for his boxing skills and his undefeated streak. The undefeated fighter has a record of 34-0-1 and will be fighting Francis Ngannou on October 28, 2023. Apart from his amazing boxing skills and techniques, he is also known for his distinctive deep and raspy voice.
‘The Gypsy King’ is famously known for his passion for singing his two favorite songs ‘Sweet Caroline’ by Neil Diamond and ‘American Pie’ by Don McLean with his unique voice. Furthermore, he loves to sing these songs after winning his matches.
When he defeated Deontay Wilder for the first time in 2020, he belted out American Pie along with promoters Bob Arum and Frank Warren. Furthermore, when he defeated Wilder for the second time, he went on to sing ‘Walking in Memphis’ by Mark Cohn with his distinctive voice.
In an interview with hosts Fleur East and James Barr on their show Hits Radio UK, Tyson and his wife Paris revealed the real reason behind his funny voice. “I didn’t always used to have this voice,” said Tyson Fury. Furthermore, he talked about the exact incident which led to his changed voice.
“This guy called Ty Mitchell, he punched me in the throat in sparring and it ended up getting a blood clot in my throat,” said ‘The Gypsy King’. According to Tyson, he was supposed to remove the clot but got scared and did not follow up. Furthermore, Tyson said that because of this incident, he now sounds like his dad, John Fury. “They sound like generators, GRRR!,” added Paris Fury.
Tyson Fury’s voice before getting punched in the throat
According to Paris, he used to sound very different before the incident in 2015. “He used to have a soft voice, he used to sound like real, like delicate,” said Paris Fury. Furthermore, she confirmed that ‘The Gypsy King’ used to be able to sing amazing high-notes in songs.
In a 2021 interview with MMA journalist, Ariel Helwani, Tyson talked about his voice before getting punched in the throat. He said that if people check his older interviews from 2010, they will find out that he had a different voice.
However, Tyson finds his current voice better than his softer voice from the early 2010s. “I think it sounds better anyway, there’s more pain in it,” said ‘The Gypsy King’. Furthermore, the undefeated boxer says that a lot of people praise his voice and find it quite sexy.
