To reach this point both fighters have gone through several adversaries. Spence and Crawford have collected several titles and managed to leave the ring undefeated up to this point. However, this time around, one will surely have to lose their undefeated status.
With such high stakes and much greater accolades to achieve, this fight is being deemed one of the most important matchups of the modern era. Let’s take a look at how many titles have both fighters collected and who has the most.
Terence Crawford’s belt collection
Coming in at number 3 on the pound-for-pound list of active boxers, Terence Crawford is the current WBO welterweight champion. Crawford has retained his WBO title six times against some big names. However, he hasn’t always fought at welterweight.
Crawford won his first championship title in the lightweight division with the NABO lightweight title. Due to this he moved up in the WBO rankings and claimed the WBO lightweight title from Ricky Burns in 2014. His time at the lightweight ended after earning the Ring lightweight title.
After becoming a unified champion at lightweight, Bud set his sites on the light welterweight division. There he captured the WBO, WBC, Ring, WBA, and IBF light welterweight titles making him an undisputed world champion.
Later on, he had to vacate all his titles and move on for his journey to the welterweight division where he currently reigns. From lightweight to welterweight, Terence Crawford has won a total of 8 titles.
Titles won by Errol Spence Jr.
Standing tall at number 5 in the pound-for-pound list of boxers, Errol Spence Jr. is the current unified champion at welterweight. Unlike Crawford, Errol won his first title in the welterweight division.
He became the first IBF welterweight champion in 2017 against Kell Brook. After that, he retained the title thrice before challenging Shawn Porter. The fight lasted for 12 rounds and ‘The Truth’ won via split decision.
He retained his IBF title and became the WBC welterweight champion in 2019. Later on, Spence retained both titles once before his horrible car accident. Due to the accident Spence Jr. landed in ICU and was out of the ring for almost two years.
He made a dominant comeback in 2022 and won the WBA super welterweight title from Yordenis Ugas. With only titles in the welterweight division, the total number of titles won by Errol Spence Jr. is three.
While Errol has the most number of titles in the welterweight division, Crawford takes the lead in total titles. Coming weekend both fighters will finally fight for the undisputed welterweight championship title. Who are you rooting for in this fight? Let us know in the comments below.
