One fan took to X (fka Twitter) and posted a tweet saying, “The UFC needs to step their game up. Boxing is cooking them in the promotion department.” While the debate continues on X, one thing is for sure: Tyson Fury has always had it unique when it came to promotions.
Tyson Fury schools everyone else when it comes to fight promos
Many are considered to be stars in boxing, but only a few attain the status of superstars in the world of boxing. Along with one’s in-ring ability, it is their ability to make oneself stand apart from others outside the ring as well that sets them a level above.
Muhammad Ali’s trash-talking, Mike Tyson’s prison era, and Floyd Mayweather‘s charisma to pull in massive crowds set them apart from their already otherworldly boxing exploits. It seems as if Tyson Fury has joined them in their uniqueness. Tyson Fury commands attention with his team’s formidable fight promotion skills.
While the upcoming Usyk fight sure must have brought it into the spotlight, it isn’t the first time Fury has given promoters a lesson on how a fight promo should be made. Not often, have other fights in any sport had a quality promo rivaling that of the Fury vs. Usyk promo.
The Fury vs. Ngannou fight promo was another one that was indeed far ahead of its time. His promo for the fight against Dillian Whyte in 2022 is another classic example of how fight promos should be.
Fans react to the official Fury vs Usyk fight promo
It was only a matter of time before netizens would give their opinions on the much-talked-about Fury vs. Usyk promo. And that is exactly what happened. Many fans thought that this was one of the best promos ever. One fan said on YouTube, “The best promo I’ve ever seen in my life. It had everything.” Another said, “I’ve literally NEVER seen anything more hyped.”
Some compared boxing promotions to UFC promotions on social media. In the post mentioned previously, one fan said, “ufc used to do these things but nowadays it doesn’t care anymore.” And UFC has indeed given fans some killer promos in the past. Many would remember the Conor McGregor vs. Jose Aldo promo, which was quite brilliant from the UFC.
Another fan commented on the cost of such high-budget promos. The fan referring to the Fury vs. Usyk promo said, “I mean this probs took millions to make so nah lmao.” Another said, “The power of the dollar.” Also, many fans seemed to agree that UFC needs to step up their promo game.
A fan commented,” It’s not even a case of how much they’ve spent, it’s just being creative and innovative. This was always going t to happen at some point, whilst Dana is still there the UFC won’t evolve and boxing seems to have found its way of catching back up.”
Another fan seemed pretty pessimistic, saying, “Even if they stepped their game up, they will never get this close. Its the best trailer I have ever seen for a combat event.” While it remains to be seen if UFC is troubled by the ever-evolving Tyson Fury’s promo game, they sure are lacking behind as of now.
