Former world champion, Oscar De La Hoya was scheduled to make his boxing return against the former UFC champion, Vitor Belfort on September 11.
Unfortunately, Oscar De La Hoya tested positive a few days before his clash against Belfort. Due to which he has been ruled out of this boxing fight.
Though fans were not eagerly waiting for the return of Oscar De La Hoya, the MMA vs Boxing clash has certainly gathered the attention of the fans.
Fortunately, the former boxing heavyweight champion, Evander Holyfield will replace Oscar De La Hoya to take on Vitor Belfort on September 11. However, Evander Holyfield will need the approval of the California Athletic Commission on short notice in order to step into the ring once again.
But, if Holyfield does not get the approval from California State Athletic Commission then this fight can move to some other states as per sources.
Uncertainties Around Vitor Belfort vs Evander Holyfield
Evander Holyfield has been eyeing a boxing return for quite a while now. He wanted to take on his former foe Mike Tyson on his boxing return. But, that fight could not come to fruition and Tyson ended up fighting Roy Jones Jr.
Evander Holyfield last fought in the year 2011 against Brian Nielson and managed to exit the sports of boxing with an impressive TKO win. It’s needless to say he is in great shape ahead of his return. But, can he still compete and put on a show for the fans is something the fans will have to wait to find out.
The fight between Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr was fairly entertaining. And the fans can expect something similar from the fight between Holyfield and Belfort on September 11th.
Vitor Belfort last fought in 2018 and suffered a brutal KO loss against Lyoto Machida. The former UFC heavyweight champion has absorbed some serious damage throughout his career but it seems he is ready to start this new chapter with the boxing fight.
Vitor Belfort seems very confident about his boxing skills as he recently challenged any UFC fighter to face him in a boxing fight. However, fighting Evander Holyfield is not going to be an easy task for Belfort.
Vitor Belfort won’t enjoy the weight advantage that he would have against Oscar De La Hoya. And Holyfield has serious knockout power that can put Belfort in trouble. It will be interesting to see how a former heavyweight MMA champion does against a former boxing heavyweight champion in a boxing match.
