SUMMARY
- The Warriors surpassed the Bulls' regular season win record in 2016.
- Fans debate as to whether this makes GSW the best team ever since they ended up losing in the NBA Finals.
Do the 73-9 Golden State Warriors have an undisputed claim towards being considered the best team in NBA history? As most fans should be aware, the Warriors are one of the most successful dynasties of the modern generation and have won 4 NBA championships over the last decade.
Led by their franchise superstar, Steph Curry, GSW has made multiple Finals runs over the years and is one of the most successful teams in NBA history. With that being said, one should wonder if they truly deserve to be considered the best over every other team ever constructed.
Jordan and the Bulls are the only team to rival the Golden State Warriors record-wise
When it comes to an 82-game-long regular season, it is considered quite an accomplishment for a team to record even 60 wins in a single season. The 2015-2016 Golden State Warriors went well past that benchmark and finished the season with a record of 73 wins and 9 losses.
The only other team to come close to accomplishing a similar feat in the regular season would be Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls. The Bulls managed to record 72 wins and 10 losses during the 1995-1996 NBA season. Until that point, the Lakers held the record with 69 wins from the 1971-72 season.
The 73-9 Warriors ended up losing to LeBron James and the Cavaliers
The 2015-2016 Warriors managed to break the Bulls’ record. While some fans use this to point out that they should be considered the best team in NBA history, the Golden State failed to win an NBA championship that same season and ended up losing to LeBron James and the Cavs despite having a 3-1 lead in the Finals.
