SUMMARY
- Charles Oliveira holds three UFC records including the most submission wins in the UFC.
- The UFC veteran might hold this record for a very long time considering he does not really have competition for it.
UFC veteran Charles Oliveira has been plying his trade in the promotion for almost 14 years now. He has earned several records to his name in the lightweight and featherweight divisions due to his extraordinary prowess in making his opponents submit.
After racking up a 12-0 record in pro-MMA, Oliveira made his UFC debut in August 2010. He had a successful debut but for seven years Oliviera struggled in the promotion to gain momentum. A few losses here and there and regular weight misses in the featherweight division never let him move forward. However, he moved back to lightweight and there started his dominance.
He managed to rack up a 9-fight win streak in the division and earn the UFC Lightweight Championship. During this win streak, he broke the record for most submissions and most finishes. He continued his win streak by defending his title against Dustin Poirier via another submission. In his next title defense against Justin Gaethje, he missed weight but he defeated ‘The Highlight’ via another submission, extending his record.
Overall, in the UFC, considering all fighters and divisions, Charles Oliveira holds three records. He has the most finishes in the UFC with 20, the most submission wins with 16, and the most Fight Night bonuses with 19. Moreover, the Brazilian fighter has fought 32 times in the UFC (tied for 8th most) and he has won 22 of those fights (tied for 4th most).
Only Jim Miller is close enough to break any Charles Oliveira record
Jim Miller is another UFC fighter whose longevity in the promotion is commendable. He made his debut in 2008 and the 40-year-old fighter continues to grace the Octagon with his presence. The American fighter holds the record for the most total fights in the UFC (43) and the most total wins (26).
When it comes to Do Bronx‘s records, Miller stands second in total finishes with 18, and second in most submissions with 12. Miller stands fourth in Fight Night bonuses with 14, Nate Diaz takes third spot with 15 and Donald Cerrone is second with 19.
The toughest record to beat would be the most submission wins record. Charles Oliveira has 16 submission wins to his name and he has several fights left as well. Going by his fight results, he is surely going to get more submission wins to his name. Miller, on the other hand, does not have too many fights left in him. Otherwise, within the top 10 most submission records, most fighters are retired.
