The NBA is a league where some of the best athletes in the world showcase their incredible talents and skills. However, that does not mean bad things don’t happen to the players or their families. In fact, there are several unsolved mysteries and crimes that have been committed that were never solved and remain a mystery to this day.
Fans might be aware of Richard Jefferson. He is a former NBA player best known for his time with LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. After his career in the league ended, Jefferson is now a part of the NBA media and has appeared several times on air for ESPN.
Despite his popularity and celebrity-like status, Jefferson’s father was killed a few years ago and we never found out who was responsible for the crime. As a result, there is now an incentive for anyone who helps in bringing the guilty people involved to justice. Let us take a closer look.
Former NBA star Richard Jefferson’s father was killed by gang members in 2018
Unfortunately for Richard Jefferson, his father, Jefferson Sr was killed by unknown gang members back on September 19, 2018. According to the news reports, Jefferson Sr was merely talking to a group of people in Paulsen Avenue, Crompton when the tragedy occurred.
An unknown gunman opened fire on the elderly man from a dark-colored unidentified vehicle which soon took off and got away. This brutal killing undoubtedly impacted the whole Jefferson family, which simply had no idea why Richard Sr was targeted and murdered.
In fact, we really don’t have a clear-cut motive as to why he was killed. Some have theorized that the gang members presumed he belonged to a rival gang and decided to kill him before doing their due diligence. The family was never associated with any neighborhood gang which made this death all the more unfortunate.
The police officials revealed that Jefferson Sr was just an innocent bystander and did nothing wrong, “It appears Mr. Jefferson was an innocent bystander killed in a senseless act of violence…Mr. Jefferson was killed for no reason other than he was being friendly.”
The authorities also felt that there would certainly be eyewitnesses who saw this crime occur. In order to urge them to come forward, a reward of $20,000 was announced. Hopefully, someone saw the culprit and soon identifies them so that the Jefferson family can be at peace.
