Jamirah Shutes is a name that we have grown familiar with in recent times. She plays for the Memphis Women’s Basketball team and is one of the star players who help to lead the team on the court. The Memphis Tigers lost to the Bowling Green Falcons in the 3rd round last month. It was a good game from both sides as Bowling Green took the win despite a solid fight from the Tigers.

The Memphis Women’s Basketball team showed grit and resilience during the game, but could not break down the Falcons. However, despite all their good performances, Jamirah Shutes’ antics after the game ended were what caught the attention of millions around the world. When the players were in the handshake line, Jamirah punched Elissa Brett of the Falcons, who then fell to the ground.
Where is Jamirah Shutes now?
After the incident, Bowling Green released a statement and mentioned right away that they will be charging Jamirah with assault. The reason for the way the player acted remains a mystery until now. One can only assume that tensions were high after a disappointing loss for the Memphis Tigers. However, that does not explain the sucker punch on Elissa Brett.

The statement from Bowling Green mentioned: “The Bowling Green State University Police Department has charged a member of the Memphis Women’s Basketball with assault. Violence is never acceptable and our priority remains the health, safety and support of our student-athlete, who is recovering and doing well.”
That was also an update about Elissa who surely looked to be rocked. She fell to the ground immediately and some sources claimed at the time that she suffered a swollen eye. However, later on, reports mentioned that she was fine and recovering well. As for Jamirah, her current state remains a mystery.
Recently, she pleaded not guilty to the assault charges that were placed against her. This meant that she believes there was a good reason why she punched Elissa on game night. This report was submitted by her lawyer, Steven Crossmock, on behalf of Jamirah. As per a report from TMZ Sports, the young player is due to appear in court in the coming weeks.
