SUMMARY
- Drew McIntyre is one of the most popular stars in WWE.
- However, in 2009, a botched move from McIntyre broke a pro-wreslter's neck and nearly ended his career.
Drew McIntyre is regarded as one of the most reliable talents for WWE. Since his 2018 return, The Scottish Warrior has been the cornerstone of WWE’s programming, alongside Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins. With three World titles to his name, it is evident that the management backs the Scotsman for big occasions.
While McIntyre has proven to be a trustworthy asset during his second WWE run, life was not as easy for “The Chosen One” the first time around. Despite being earmarked for a big future, the Young star was never able to break his ceiling.

As McIntyre was relatively inexperienced on the main roster, he committed several unintentional errors inside the ring. One such error proved to be quite severe, with the victim getting his neck broken in the process.
Drew McIntyre’s Future Shock DDT broke Charlie Haas’ neck in 2009
During his appearance on The Kurt Angle Show in 2021, Charlie Haas revealed how a rookie mistake by Drew McIntyre almost ended his in-ring career.
The two stars were involved in a heated segment on WWE SmackDown, where The Chosen One decided to put his hands on The Outlaw. McIntyre then locked Haas in a double under hook as he prepared to deliver a vicious Future Shock. For some reason, The Scottish Warrior did not let go of his hold as he fell on his back.
Haas, who was helpless in the under hook position, found his head bouncing off the ring mat with full force. The move had very serious repercussions, with the veteran wrestler breaking his neck in the ring.
Charlie Haas spoke about the unfortunate incident and added, “He did that uh no handed DDT to me too as well um, and then my neck, I heard it crack. You freakin put your life into somebody’s hands, that fu****g move man, and I don’t know why he didn’t let go”.
While Haas returned to the ring after a while, he still finds it difficult to know why The Scottish Warrior did not release him from his hold. As for McIntyre, it was one of the many errors he committed during his initial run that eventually led to his 2014 release. Thankfully, the 38-year-old has proven a trustworthy worker in the ring ever since he embarked on his second WWE run.
Drew McIntyre is currently embroiled in a heated feud with CM Punk
Drew McIntyre is currently enjoying his time on the top of the WWE card. The Scotsman is one of the highlights of weekly WWE programming, with fans adoring his trolling persona. McIntyre even captured the World Heavyweight title at WrestleMania 40, only to lose it to Damian Priest, thanks to an interference from CM Punk.
Despite his injury, Punk has remained a recurring thorn in McIntyre’s path. Their feud has been heating up for months now. If The Second City Saint recovers before August, we may see the two stars trade blows at SummerSlam in Cleveland. The two have crossed paths quite a few times since Punk’s return to the company and it will be interesting to see what the Triple H-led creative team has in store for the duo.
