Shortly after the alleged beef surrounding Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel went public, the Fast and Furious franchise underwent changes. Things potentially went wrong between the aforementioned icons during the filming of Fast 8. The People’s Champ even ranted about his male co-actors on social media before the movie’s release. After a tumultuous and calamitous span, Johnson decided to cut ties with the franchise.
As Johnson publicly hinted, his involvement in Hobbs & Shaw prevented him from making it for Fast 9. But that was not the case for real. One of the female co-stars of Johnson and Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, tried her best to make their colleagues settle their differences, but to no avail.

However, there was an individual who seemingly had his own disdain for The Rock back then. Tyrese Gibson, who portrayed the role of Roman Pierce in six F&F movies until 2017, dropped a bombshell. Through a startling Instagram post in November 2017, the singer dared to quit the Fast & Furious franchise, had Dwayne Johnson continued with the same.
However, neither of those things happened, as The Great One publicly announced his departure after continued issues with Vin Diesel. As a result, Tyrese went through the casting process for Fast 9, which was released in June 2021. In that Instagram post in 2017, Gibson accused Johnson of messing with his mental health and family. The Sweet Lady album owner called the Black Adam star a clown.
Why did Tyrese Gibson hated Dwayne Johnson?
In another Instagram post, Gibson clarified the actual reason behind his scorn for the 51-year-old WWE legend. According to Tyrese himself, he had no personal animosity with The Rock until he secretly approved a pitch. Although it’s still vague what that was about, it affected him mentally. At the time, Gibson was dealing with a legal custody lawsuit for her daughter.
Moving ahead with his frustration, Tyrese added that he’d just simply ask not to accept a role in private. So being said, the Baby Boy actor termed The Rock as a selfish champ, making a mockery of his WWE nickname, The People’s Champ. Well, it seems like that alleged idea, which Johnson sanctioned, was sort of personal gain for the Jumanji star, by the looks of it.
Gibson never stopped there, as he posted a tearful video slamming Dwayne once again. He said, “You know compassion is being able to understand the seat and the reality that someone else is sitting in,” Gibson said. “That’s compassion. It’s not about the seat that you’re sitting in The Rock, it’s about the seat that everyone is sitting in.” However, back in 2021, Tyrese buried the hatchet with Dwayne Johnson, officially ending their feud.
