Rita Chatterton is the first woman to work as a referee for the WWE. She obtained her license to referee wrestling in New York in 1984. She has stated that former CEO Vince McMahon sexually assaulted her in the 1980s. She publicly accused Vincent Kennedy McMahon in 1992, but no charges were filed against him since the rape statute of limitations had already expired.

The Wall Street Journal revealed in June that McMahon had spent millions of his own money to quiet women with whom he had relations while they were working for him. Following the release of the report, McMahon resigned as the company’s chairman and CEO, appointing his daughter Stephanie to take over in the interim.
She claims that McMahon tried to pressure her into having oral sex with him in his limo on July 16, 1986, and when she refused, she claimed he raped her.
She claimed that she continued to work for the WWE three to four more times after that and added that she kept quiet out of consideration for her parents, who were both in a critical state. Her father passed away two weeks before her Rivera interview, and her mother passed away a year earlier. She was hoping to settle outside of court.
Vince McMahon retired from WWE
Back in July, Vince McMahon made the shocking decision to announce his resignation as the company’s CEO, shocking the entire WWE universe. Since that time, Stephanie McMahon and Triple H have taken leadership roles as CEO and Chief Content Officer, respectively.
At 77, time for me to retire.
Thank you, WWE Universe.
Then. Now. Forever. Together. #WWE #thankful— Vince McMahon (@VinceMcMahon) July 22, 2022
Due to multiple allegations against him, he decided to step down. The former chairman allegedly paid hush money to several women to cover his numerous affairs, according to a Wall Street Journal report from June. The board of directors was investigating Mr. McMahon after the claims became public.
After the investigation, on June 17, McMahon named his daughter Stephanie McMahon as acting CEO and then announced his resignation as CEO. And on July 22, he announced his retirement on Twitter thanking the WWE fans for their support over the last 40 years.
Rita Chatterton Demands $11.75 Million from Vince McMahon
Rita Chatterton, a former wrestling referee, accused McMahon publicly of raping her in a limo three decades earlier. Her attorney demanded $11.75 million in damages in a demand letter issued to McMahon’s representative on November 3. McMahon has always denied the accusations. The Wall Street Journal reviewed the demand letter.

John Clune, Chatterton’s lawyer, asked McMahon for $11.75 million in compensation. Chatterton “has experienced years of persistent depression, substance abuse, disordered eating, reduced income, and generally a decreased quality of life,” according to the letter, which stated that the repercussions of McMahon’s claimed conduct were “hard to overstate.”
Chatterton claimed that in order for her to be granted a $500,000 contract with WWE, McMahon made her do sexual favors for him.
