SUMMARY
- The Undertaker and Sting are two of the most iconic characters in the history of professional wrestling.
- Despite the kind of legacy they have, these two were never able to go one-on-one against each other in WWE.
The Undertaker has accomplished everything in the pro wrestling world during his decades-long career. In addition to the titles he won, and his legacy as The Deadman, the feuds he was a part of during his WWE run, are what make him one of the greatest guys to ever step foot into the promotion.
Despite everything The Phenom achieved, one thing that fans still complain about is that he never feuded with Sting. It’s true that both of them worked for different companies for most of their careers. But even after The Icon joined the Stamford-based promotion in 2014, the feud never happened.
As the WWE Universe believes that it was a missed opportunity, The Deadman has finally revealed the reason why this rivalry never became a reality. This happened on the recent episode of his YouTube podcast, as he made the revelation that it was Vince McMahon who didn’t want The Undertaker vs. Sting to happen.
During the conversation, Taker said, “It just didn’t work out. He had a short run in WWE and Vince didn’t want it. For whatever reason, I don’t know what it was. He didn’t feel it. Everybody else was clamoring for this match for quite a few years. The match would have been good, but I don’t think it would have lived up to the expectations that people have for it.” (Via: SESCOOPS)
In addition to this, the WWE veteran added that fans probably wanted a late 2000’s version of Taker to fight against The Stinger, and that time had already passed. Looking at the comments by The Deadman, it seems like he believes that Mr. McMahon’s decision about not having this high profile match was the right call for the organization.
What are Sting’s thoughts about a match with The Undertaker?
The Phenom shared his opinion about a potential showdown against Sting on the recent episode of the Six Feet Under with Mark Callaway podcast. But The Stinger has also shared his thoughts about a bout with The Undertaker in a recent interview with CBS Sports. During the conversation, The Icon talked about the match he never got with The Deadman.
While doing so, he shared that it would have been so memorable that no one would have ever forgotten it. The 65-year-old legend said, “I think if it was done right, it could have been a night, for sure, everyone would remember and never forget.” This shows how much belief he had in this legendary storyline, but it unfortunately never really happened.
Both The Undertaker and Sting are now officially retired
While it’s true that both the legendary in-ring stars have recently shared their thoughts about the missed opportunity of a match between them. But a major reason why it’s now probably never going to happen is that both Sting and The Undertaker are now officially retired from in-ring competition.
The Deadman announced his retirement from the industry on June 21, 2020, after which he was inducted into the 2022 edition of the WWE Hall of Fame. After this, Taker has turned his full attention towards his YouTube channel, especially his podcast, which has been going well.
On the other hand, The Stinger bid farewell to the world of professional wrestling on March 3, 2023. In the last match of his career, Sting and Darby Allin teamed up to defeat The Young Bucks at the AEW Revolution PPV. Even though it was the veteran’s last match as an in-ring performer, he gave a performance of a lifetime and tore the house down.

With Taker and The Vigilante no longer active as professional wrestlers, it’s evident that the industry would never get to see them fighting each other in the ring. But it is going to be really cool if The Deadman ever invites Sting to his YouTube podcast. If it happens, the fans are surely going to shower their love on these legendary pro wrestling stars.
