WWE has recently been doing some spectacular build-up to its Payback 2023 event, and one recent announcement added more to the already massive buzz. Triple H’s company announced the return of a legendary performer on WWE Raw, and it has left fans elated.
The superstar who is set for a return is none other than the legend John Cena. This exciting news has created massive hype among fans as they look forward to what the 16-time Champion will be up to upon his return to the Triple-H-led promotion. Many of you may want to know when he is actually going to return, so let’s check out Cena’s return date.
WWE announced earlier tonight on Raw that the Cenation Leader is set to return to Triple H’s company next month. His comeback to the Stamford-based promotion will not be just a one-off appearance, as Cena is scheduled to appear at two different events in September.

As per the announcement, the 16-time World Champion is first set to appear on the September 1 episode of SmackDown. Following this, the legend will also be seen at WWE’s Superstar Spectacle event in India, which will be the promotion’s first major show in the country. The event is set to take place on September 8, 2023, at the G. M. C. Balayogi Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad.
While John may not have been working on his acting projects due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, two appearances by him in about a week are still massive. While there can even be storyline reasons behind this return, WWE most probably made this decision due to the 16-time champion’s huge fanbase in India.
John Cena made a surprise appearance at WWE Money In The Bank PLE
Even though the Stamford-based promotion announced Cena’s return over 10 days before the date, his most recent appearance in the company was a massive surprise. The Cenation Leader made a surprise appearance at WWE Money In The Bank PLE, and it was something no one really expected.
The event took place on July 1, 2023, at the O2 Arena in London, England, and John made his return to interact with the crowd. As the fan-favorite superstar was talking about taking WrestleMania to the British city, he was interrupted by former NXT star Grayson Waller.
Things weren’t just limited to interrupting the WWE legend; the Australia-based youngster trash-talked and even took a cheap shot by attacking Cena from behind. But as the 16-time champion has done on numerous occasions throughout his in-ring career, he made a comeback and gave Waller an Attitude Adjustment.
Now that the legendary WWE is set to make a return to the Stamford-based promotion next month, fans would desire him to do something similar. However, it’ll be interesting to see how the company makes the best use of his appearances. It remains to be seen if John will only be involved in interaction segments or if we’ll get to see him give a memorable performance at any of the two events.
